Colorelief & Romo Stereo Viewers & Cards
Colorelief
Produced for almost a decade, 1949 - 1964 in France, the Colorelief was a 3D stereo format system consisting image cards of 8 Kodachrome stereo pairs of images, vertically placed. Each card was able to be placed in a Colorelief viewer and advanced downward to view each pair of images.
The inventor, Martin Lowell, who also invented the EMEL regular regular 8mm movie camera of the 1930s. He said the original idea for the card was because it didn't infringe on any View-Master patents. He said he later sold the idea to Bruguiere, who slightly modified the cards into their present form. This card will work in a current Bruguiere viewer if you pull it through by hand. The shape of the center holes has changed slightly so the automatic advance won't work. You'll notice that the subject matter of Colorelief was not as limited as View-Master's.
Romo
Produced for almost two deacdes from 1954 through the mid-1970s in France, the Lestrade was a 3D stereo format system consisting image cards of 10 Kodachrome stereo pairs of images, vertically placed. Each card was able to be placed in a Lestrade viewer and advanced downward to view each pair of images.
