The Roosevelt Elk are the largest of the four surviving elk subspecies in North America. Bulls weight between 700 and 1100 pounds; cows weight 575 to 625 pounds. in the warm months they eat grasses and sedges, but in winter months they also feed on woody plants. The largest unmanaged herd lives in Olympic National Park, set aside by Theodore Roosevelt to protect this subspecies, which are named for him
