The Chiricahua Mountains are a massif in the Basin and
Range province of southeast Arizona, a bio-diverse sky
island containing 375 bird species. Chiricahua National
Monument was established in 1924 to protect extensive
hoodoos and balancing rocks. Named for a band of Apache
natives, the mountains rise to 9,759 feet high at Chiricahua
Peak. These two images of Cave Creek Canyon Shift between
a starry night showing the Milky Way and a morning sunrise.
