Science Comes Alive! # REEL 3
at the San Diego Supercomputer Center
Science Comes Alive! is a series of computer-generated stereos on View-Master reels from the San Diego Supercomputer Center, a national laboratory for computational science and engineering at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD). Since the time Reel 1 came out in 1993, there have been six more. The complex, striking images on the reels and the detailed notes on the full-color insert enclosed with each reel are intended to stimulate kids' and teachers' interest in science, but the sheer variety from reels to reel successfully draws in ordinary adult viewers, too.Â
The fist reel come out in 1993, the last one around 1998. Each reel comes with a leaflet describing the Seven stereoscopic images, and the reel were originally free for the asking. Topics for the reels come from many areas of science; chemistry, including biochemistry, is the most frequently-encountered topic.Â
